Brazil's Critical Infrastructure Gap: Securing the Road Ahead

Infrastructural development has become a high priority on Brazil’s domestic agenda as it grapples with meeting the demands of continued growth and prepares to host two major international sporting events within the next four years. Yet, despite significant investment, there are still a number of challenges Brazil must overcome to satisfy its growing energy needs and improve its transportation networks. Now more than ever, Brazilian policy-makers will have to work hard to balance the need for economic development against rising social and
environmental pressures if they are to secure the country’s future economic growth, consolidate its position as the region’s undisputed hegemon and prevent other sectors – such as defence – from suffering as a result of the resource allocation decisions to come.
