Tsushima - A Decisive Victory: The Great Naval Battle 100 Years On

Few naval battles have been so decisive as the smashing victory achieved by Admiral Togo’s Japanese fleet over the Russian Second Pacific Squadron in the Straits of Tsushima on 27 May 1905. Nine years later, Sir Julian Corbett called it ‘perhaps the most decisive and complete naval victory in history…Not once in our most successful war had we obtained a command of the sea so nearly absolute as that which Japan now enjoyed’. He even doubted whether ‘such an uncontrolled sway’ would ever be won again.
