Lean Thinking In An Uncertain Environment

By Dr Peter Tatham and Major David Worrell
4 Mar 2010

Armoured Repair

After a career of some 35 years as a logistician in the Royal Navy, Peter Tatham joined Cranfield University in 2004. He lectures in Defence and Humanitarian Logistics and in Human Systems and has recently completed his doctoral research into the issues surrounding the role of shared values within military supply networks. David Worrell, currently studying on the UK Advanced Command and Staff Course, commanded Equipment Support Company in 19 Combat Service Support Battalion in Iraq from 2006 to 2007. They examine lean thinking, concluding that it is perfectly possible in a volatile environment by constructing a case study from Iraq.
