'Fast Acquisition': Streamlining Capability Delivery

Stu Olden is a Senior Principal Systems Engineer for BMT Defence Services Limited in Bath. Previously he had served for 24 years in the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, including a spell in the UK MoD acquisition community, delivering capability within the Special Projects domain. Here he looks at the difference in the way that equipment programmes and urgent operational requirements are delivered and suggests that changes to MoD’s acquisition system based on systems engineering principles can deliver ‘FAST’ acquisition.
