About the event:
Analysing developments in synthetic fuels, fuel cells and battery technologies
(Presentation slides now available from the Additional Info tab.)
The UK MoD currently uses in the order of 1 billion litres of fuel per year.
As the demand for fuel increase and natural reserves are depleted the cost of fuel will increase and availability decrease. Therefore alternatives must be found to support future military operations.
This workshop will consider the available alternatives to fossil fuels for the military and the challenges faced in ensuring they are sustainable and operationally effective.
Key issues:
• What developments have been made in bio, synthetic, hydrogen and other alternative fuels?
• What can be learnt from development in the civil and military sectors?
• What are the limitations of alternative fuels? How do we ensure operational effectiveness is not compromised?
• How do we ensure that solutions are sustainable? And consider the Fully Burdened Cost?
