About the event:

With over 14,500 athletes competing, 20,000 members of the world’s media expected to attend and some nine million tickets to be sold; the 2012 Games and preparations for them are an unprecedented organisational challenge for the UK. Central to the Government’s Olympic commitment is its promise to deliver a ‘safe and secure Games, in keeping with the Olympic culture and spirit.’
In conjunction with the Home Office, the Royal United Services Institute hosted a high profile public conference focusing on the delivery of a safe and secure Olympic and Paralympic Games, with Lord West, the then Government’s Minister for Security and Counter-terrorism opening the conference. For the first time, the Organising Partners, officials from across local and national government and industry representatives came together to present the UK’s security strategy for the Games.
As the most authoritative public event on Olympic safety and security to date, this conference offered an opportunity to discuss the challenges and opportunities entailed in preparations for the Games.
