About the event:

Encouraging responsible management and improving efficiency both on the defence estate and in deplyed operating bases

Energy Management for Defence InfrastructureThe biggest user of fuel within the MoD is the estates, contributing to approximately half the MoD’s energy consumption and up two thirds of the government’s carbon emissions. While significant improvements have been made to reduce use of fossil fuels and increase sustainability on individual sites across the UK, still more could be done.

The first in the series of Alternative Energy and Sustainability workshops will focus on the progress being made on the Defence Estates. It will consider how the MoD can further reduce its environmental footprint at home in the UK, considering the change in behaviour and investment in infrastructure required.

Key issues:

• Where is energy used and wasted on defence estates? How can this be reduced?

• What lessons can be learned form each of the armed forces and what benefit would a joint approach bring?

• What is the business case for investing in alternative energy and sustainability? How could capital be raised?

• How could contracts for energy, support, maintenance and development deliver the most effective and sustainable solutions?

• How could advances in technology be used to reduce energy consumption and use of fossil fuels?
