About the event:

RUSImotif smallThe appointment of a new British Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan, in the wake of the first regional tour of President Obama’s top envoy for Afghanistan and Pakistan, demonstrates a new transatlantic commitment to stability in South Asia. There has been acknowledgement that the solution to the Afghan conflict lies in finding a new regional balance. However, there remains a need for more analysis on the concrete political, military and diplomatic steps that the U.S. and its UK ally will need to take to deliver stability in the long term.

Dr. Ashley J. Tellis, a leading expert on South Asian security at the Carnegie Endowment, will share his insights on how the U.S. and the United Kingdom can balance the many and sometimes contradictory interests of regional players to build an effective regional solution to the Afghanistan and Pakistan conflict.
