Sir John Scarlett KCMG OBE

Position: Senior Associate Fellow

Sir John Scarlett became a Senior Associate Fellow of the Royal United Services Institute in January 2010.

From August 2004-2009 he was Chief of the Secret Intelligence Service, his final post after thirty-eight years of government service, which included three years (September 2001 - July 2004) in the Cabinet Office as Chairman of the Joint Intelligence Committee. Sir John's career in the Secret Intelligence Service included postings in Nairobi, Paris and twice in Moscow, in the mid-1970s and the early 1990s (at the end of the Soviet Union).

His particular interests include international relations, national security policy and understanding Britain's position in the modern world.
