This session will explore the implications of SDSR and the Green Paper for the defence sector and ask if COTS is an appropriate model for future procurement of information systems. It will also explore developing trends in the commercial ICT market and how various actors are exploiting these technologies.

1600 Session Four: Maturing Information Management and Exploitation
Chair: Major General (Ret’d) Bill Robins, Associate Fellow, RUSI
Major General (Ret’d) Bill Robins, from the Key Systems Advisor Team, will lead a panel of senior stakeholders from the MOD Information Superiority community. The CIO, as the MOD’s owner of information management and exploitation (IM/IX), will introduce his new MOD Information Strategy (MODIS) with each of the other stakeholders presenting a short ‘think-piece’ on the maturity of IM/IX from their perspectives; these will be followed by discussion and questions. Likely topics will be centred around C4ISR coherence, a system-of-systems centric approach to acquisition organisation; the impact of the emerging MOD-wide Network Authority governance construct; effective acquisition of CIS capabilities; the roles of industry and how changes to the NEC landscape in the last 24 months have influenced progress.
